Bob Kirby
Originally from London, United Kingdom, Bob was trained as an aircraft engineer with British Airways. He moved to Nairobi, Kenya when he was 21 after winning the Apprentice of the Year. Bob spent the next seven years as an aircraft engineer with the East African Airways.
When he eventually settled in Perth, Western Australia in 1974, he spent his first six months as the service manager of Morlocks Suzuki followed by 18 months teaching at TAFE before taking a completely different turn in his career – becoming a law enforcer.
After spending 27 years in the Western Australian Police Force, he retired in July 2003, and along with his son, Bill Kirby, set up the company KB Swim Equip.
Inspired by Bill's request for assistance in running his swim programmes in Christchurch Grammar School in Claremont, Bob Utilised his engineering knowledge and designed the first version of the Turnmaster Pro and the Swim Teaching Platform. These products have been evolving ever since to their present stage – light in weight, easy to use and durable.
Although Bob did not achieve the same success in sports as Bill did, he was the East African Motor Cyle Champion for several successive years, he also played a mean game of golf. Bob continued to take part in motor bike racing in Australia as an A grade rider in the early 80's. These days Bob still manages to spend some time on the greens but no longer has the time to keep his handicap in single figures.
